The INC

The “Nicolás Cabrera” University Institute of Materials Science (INC), of the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM), was created on February 19, 1993. The Institute is named after the founder of the Physics Departments of UAM: Don Nicolás Cabrera.

D. Nicolás Cabrera gave utmost importance to scientific excellence and collaboration with industry, being interested in responding to the needs of society. This is reflected in the activity in Materials Science of the Physics Departments of the UAM. It is a multidisciplinary center of the Autonomous University of Madrid that is dedicated to research and training in the area of Materials Science. The Institute has its headquarters on the 4th floor of module 08 of the Faculty of Sciences of the Autonomous University of Madrid.

The objectives of the INC are:

  • Research, development and scientific innovation in the area of Materials Science, through collaboration between the Institute’s researchers, and the Institute’s researchers with those of other public and private entities.
  • The promotion, implementation and dissemination of research work in the area of Materials Science.
  • Postgraduate training.
  • The dissemination of research, works and subjects of interest through publications, monographic courses, seminars, conference cycles, etc.
  • Scientific and technical advice to public or private entities.
  • Develop a program of outreach activities
  • Any other purpose or activity aimed at research, training and dissemination of topics within the area of Materials Science.
