The XXX International Summer School of the Nicolás Cabrera Institute (INC) was held from September 2nd to 6th, 2024, at the “La Cristalera” residence of Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM) in Miraflores de la Sierra, under the topic “Energy storage systems to face the climate challenge: Sustainable development of lithium-ion batteries.” This edition addressed the critical role of energy storage in the transition towards a sustainable and carbon-free future.
The event brought together 43 young researchers, mainly doctoral and postdoctoral students, from countries such as France, Germany, Denmark, Austria, Pakistan, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Egypt, Colombia, and Spain, in addition to featuring prominent international leaders in materials science as speakers. These experts presented the latest advances in energy storage, addressing topics such as solid-state batteries, analysis and modelling techniques, and sustainability in developing new technologies, including alternatives to lithium like sodium.
The School also promoted interaction among attendees through social and cultural activities, including a visit to Segovia and sports sessions, which facilitated the exchange of ideas in a relaxed atmosphere. Likewise, a poster session was organized where young researchers shared their work and received feedback from experts.
In summary, this edition of the Nicolás Cabrera International Summer School has provided an enriching experience in a key area for sustainable development, promoting international collaboration and underlining the commitment of the scientific community to the search for innovative solutions to climate change.”
