We all remember the talk that Shoucheng gave in our colloquium. He spend his first ten minutes on a single transparency–these ten minutes are probably the most memorable contribution to the colloquium. He explained the quantum Hall trio, one after the other, with a clarity and beauty that is difficult to surpass. The video we took from Shoucheng’s talk could have been much better in audio and visual quality. But it is by far the most viewed video of the colloquium. Our tribute to Shoucheng is to make clear that he illuminated and motivated us and our youngest students. We were terribly sorry to learn that Shoucheng passed away last December and send our support to his family and to our colleagues at Stanford.
