XXIV International Summer School ‘Nicolás Cabrera’
Quantum Transport in Topological Materials
Miraflores de la Sierra, Madrid, Sept. 4-8, 2017
Scope and goals
Topological materials constitute an exciting and very active research area in condensed matter physics. It studies new states of matter whose bulk properties are similar to those of ‘ordinary’ materials but that, at the same time, display edge or boundary states with very exotic properties. Since the discovery of topological insulators, roughly a decade ago, the field has rapidly expanded with the identification of other topological materials, such as topological superconductors and Weyl semimetals. This Summer School will gather leading international experts to provide an introduction to the basic concepts underlying topology in condensed matter systems, followed by a discussion of recent developments, with a focus on quantum transport and hybrid devices. The goal is to cover not only theoretical aspects, but to also address the experimental progress, including the detection and manipulation of states associated with these materials.
Topics
• Hybrid devices (quantum dots, nanowires, heterostrucutres).
• Topological insulators and superconductors.
• Weyl semimetals.
• Topological quantum computing.

Program
You can already check the school poster, Schedule, as well as the Book of abstracts. Here you will find the titles and abstracts of the 18 tutorials and 5 seminars that constitute the program of the school. You can also find the titles of the 58 posters that will be presented by our young participants. We hope you like it!
Photos and media coverage
Here you can find the conference photos as well as several news and videos from Spanish journals devoted to the school, to topological materials and quantum technologies in general. They were written and recorded by interviewing several participants of the school thanks to the Fundación BBVA.

Optional open access publication at no cost
In parallel with the scope of the summer school, we have made special arrangements with the Beilstein Journal of Nanotechnology (BJNANO.org) to collect works related to this topic as a thematic series (special issue), edited by Juan Jose Palacios, Elsa Prada and Alfredo Levy Yeyati. All submissions will undergo a standard peer-review process, and publications will be collected together as they are published. This is a unique opportunity to publish your work related to topological materials as a review article, original research article or letter in an open access platform, without any costs for submission. The Beilstein-Institut fully supports this 100% non-profit journal. Please see the instructions sent to you via email regarding how to submit.

History and venue
The International Summer School “Nicolás Cabrera”, funded by the BBVA Foundation, deals with current topics in materials science, condensed matter physics, nanophysics and biophysics since 1994. The School is a meeting point for numerous scientists all over the world, who share a few days in Madrid in a particularly pleasant and interacting environment.
The School is organized in the residence “La Cristalera” in Miraflores de la Sierra, a small village in the mountains near Madrid.
Dates
September 4th-8th, 2017
