1st prize:

Angel Ibabe Avilés, with the publication: “Heat Dissipation Mechanisms in Hybrid Superconductor−Semiconductor Devices Revealed by Joule Spectroscopy” Ángel Ibabe, Gorm O. Steffensen, Ignacio Casal, Mario Gómez, Thomas Kanne, Jesper Nygård, Alfredo Levy Yeyati, and Eduardo J. H. Lee. Nanoletters 2024

The article presents a study on the cooling and heating mechanisms in InAs/Al-based superconductor-semiconductor nanowires, which are proposed as basic components in quantum circuits. Detrimental overheating effects related to the superconducting islands were identified and electron-phonon coupling was established to be the cooling mechanism. The complex and extensive experimental work performed by Angel Ibabe, as well as his relevant participation in all stages of the work, have been particularly appreciated.

2nd prize:

Carlos Sebastian Vicente with the publication: “All-Optical Domain Inversion in LiNbO3 Crystals by Visible Continuous-Wave Laser Irradiation” C. Sebastián-Vicente, J. Imbrock, S. Laubrock, O. Caballero-Calero, A. García-Cabañes, M. Carrascosa. ACS Photonics 2024

The article demonstrates a new all-optical method for spontaneous polarization reversal in LiNbO3, opening up the possibility of easily and cost-effectively fabricating arbitrary ferroelectric domain structures with continuous lasers. Furthermore, a novel physical mechanism underlying the light-driven switching was proposed. This approach has also led to the filling of a patent. The extensive experimental and theoretical work of Carlos Sebastian has been determinant for the success of the work.
